Welcome to my webpage! There’s a lot going on here:  a large sampling of the music I make, a number of video performances, bio info, information on what I do, and a blog, which I intend to use as a chronicle of the musings of my unusual mind. Poke through here (be sure to visit the store!), enjoy the music and endure my droll commentary, and join my email list and stay up on my blog and what else is new in my musical universe!

BIG NEWS ITEM!:  I am working on the next set of arrangements for Herbie Hancock and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.  2 of Herbie’s compositions, “Suite for Angela” and “I Have A Dream”, for the Power To The People concert on March 5, 2020.  These projects are HUGE FUN;  Herbie just wants me to go for it, and I do, and then I get to hear Herbie, his incredible musicians, and the LA Phil play it all.  The concert is almost sold out;  get your tix now!

BIG NEWS ITEM 2!:
I am currently producing a Duo CD with the incredible Eric Marienthal and Randy Brecker for Shanachie Records.  I’ve done several very joyful writing sessions with Eric and we’re almost written, and Randy has contributed his usual impeccably ingenious tunes, and Ada Rovatti has one going on as well, a rocking thing with a really creative 7/4 section.  We’re going for some of that Brecker Brothers funk on this one, having a great time with it!  We’ll have some great guests on it, as well (paging Dave Weckl and John Patitucci!) and I should have the tracks ready for Eric and Randy to record on by November of 2019.  Keep an eye out for this one, everybody’s hitting brilliantly on this project!

BIG NEWS ITEM 3!: After a week of filming in which I estimate I filmed 2400 minutes worth of jazz piano lessons in the studio at ArtistWorks, we have what I consider to be an incredibly comprehensive online Jazz Piano course in the can; they’re editing now, and I couldn’t be happier with the way these lessons are working. Complemented by a ton of written material, a huge library of backing tracks and the greatest feature of ArtistWorks, “Video Exchange” learning, in which students submit quick video of themselves working on this or that and I respond in kind with a video from my piano, I’m eager to dig in and get these lessons going! ArtistWorks is offering a great deal pre-launch that I think works out to about $17 a month for an annual subscription. There’s nothing else like this out there!

Would you like to study Jazz Piano with me? In collaboration with ArtistWorks, the leading online music instruction website, I’ve developed a huge, comprehensive video lessons series that features one-on-one feedback from me to my students!, These lessons take you on a logical path to getting up and improvising FAST. CLICK HERE for more information and a link to 5 sample lessons. 160 online lessons, tons of PDF download materials, hundreds of play-along tracks and one-on-one instruction via ArtistWorks’ unique “Video Exchange” learning. FEATURED VIDEO: From THIRD RAIL’s December ’13 tour of Europe, my tune “Do A Little Dance”, live in Köln, Germany:

Happy Birthday, Mike

It was always fun getting Mike Brecker to laugh. Nobody could make him laugh like Randy; we didn’t see them go off all that often, but when they hit it they both got almost paralyzed laughing... Read more

Headed Home…

Sitting in Newark Airport for 7 hours waiting for a standby flight home, damned tired but buzzing in the best way over the last 2 weeks. Ended the tour last night in Prague at one of my favorite jazz... Read more
